  1. BOUNCING BEAD BUDDIES
  2.  
  3. YOU'LL NEED:
  4. 3 large wooden beads for head and body
  5. 5 smaller wooden beads for hands, feet, and top of hat
  6. 1 wooden disk or wheel for hat
  7. Acrylic paints
  8. Toothpicks
  9. Fine paintbrush
  10. 1/4-inch flat paintbrush
  11. Tacky glue
  12. 3 rubber bands
  13.  
  14. STEP 1
  15. Place toothpicks through the holes of the beads to make them easy to hold. Paint all the beads with acrylic paints using colors of your choice. Let dry.

  17. Use the fine paintbrush to decorate two of the large beads.  Do not paint the face on a bead at this time.

  19. STEP 2
  20. Glue the three large beads together, noticing the locations of the holes in the beads. To make gluing easier, butt them together on a flat surface.  Let the glue dry completely before you go on.

  22. STEP 3
  23. Cut the rubber bands into long strands. Tie an overhand knot in one end of two rubber bands.  Thread a small bead onto each band.
  24.  
  25. Push one band through the hole in each of the two body beads.  Slip a small bead on the end of each band.  Tie an overhand knot at the end.

  27. STEP 4
  28. For the head, thread a rubber band through the hat bead, disc, head bead, then back through the disc and hat bead. Knot the ends of the band together. Paint the face using the fine brush.

  33. -- Practice coloring and designing the beads before you paint them with the other two patterns.

  35. Here├òs how to thread the beads:
  36. If you have difficulty pushing the rubber bands through the beads, use a straight pin to guide them through the holes. If you have a large-eye needle, you can thread it with the rubber band, insert the needle through the bead, and pull the band through.
